Alan Musgrave’s Farewell

One of my academic heroes (of which there are few!)

Alan Musgrave was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Otago and a friend and fellow chess teammate of "The Frenchman plus 3". The Frenchman was Professor Ray Stone, an awesome chess player with an equally awesome physique. The fourth member of the chess team was David Ward, a fellow Canadian from Toronto who was also a philosopher.

Alan was a former PhD student of the philosopher of science, Karl Popper. Alan taught a course on the history and philosophy of science which was 'mandatory' for my postgraduate students.
